Vacant WBC Lightweight Championship
Last night’s Golden Boy/DAZN Main Event at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, between Lamont Roach (25-2-3, 10 Kos) and William Zepeda (34-1, 27 Kos) was a very interesting bout where Zepeda, who hadn’t graced the squared circle since accepting a conclusive loss to Shakur Stevenson in July 2025, showed up this time around with an adjusted “game plan” that showed much improvement.
As for Roach, fresh off two controversial draws against two heavy-fisted punchers in Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz, approached this bout with the wrong “game plan” and paid a hefty price for it.
Everyone who’s been inside that squared circle with Zepeda knows exactly what he brings on fight night. Nonstop calculated pressure at a smothering pace with punches coming from all angles but this time, with the added footwork and an elevated boxing IQ that was just enough to disrupt Roach from ever settling in and using his counter punching styles that he was well known for.
As the rounds progressed, Roach found himself on the receiving end and getting broken down beaten to the punch from every corner with absolutely nothing to deter Zepeda from outworking him.
It was a beautiful display of boxing by Zepeda who kept his foot on Roach’s neck by never letting him breathe long enough at any point throughout the bout.
That being said, after 12 full one-sided rounds of action, the Judges at hand scored it 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111 unanimously for William Zepeda.
Win this very convincing win now under his belt, Zepeda picked up the vacant WBC Lightweight Title crowning him the New WBC Lightweight Champion of the world.
