Middleweight Showdown

In last night’s TGB Promotions/No Limit Boxing Main Event we witnessed the return of former welterweight Champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (28-2, 22 Kos) grace the inside of that squared circle after a three-year layoff to challenge Tim “Phoenix” Tszyu (29-3, 18 Kos) at Afterpay Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Errol came out the gate aggressive trying to impose himself on Tim but quickly found out within the first 4 rounds that the Middleweight Division and Tim aren’t as sweet as he thought.  Tim stayed patient in the opening rounds standing his ground while applying pressure that Errol surprisingly couldn’t negate.

As the rounds progressed, it became clear that Errol’s balance and power were a non-factor and he looked out of place trying to fight on his back foot attempting to deter Tim from having his way with him.

Tim was outworking Errol while walking him down round by round. Tim stayed consistent with his pressure and put a good beating on Errol who simply looked defeated and on survival mode throughout the remainder of the bout.

Tim’s size and power were key factors last night and after 12 rounds of one-sided action, the Judges at hand scored it 118-110, 117-111 and 117-117, unanimously for Tim Tszyu.

This was a great win for Tim but a very tough loss for Errol who eventually announced his retirement from boxing after the decision was announced.
