WBA/WBO Featherweight Title Defence
Last night’s MVP Promotions Main Event live on Tik Tok at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California, between Unified WBA/WBO/Ring Magazine Featherweight Champion Amanda Serrano (50-4-1, 32 Kos) and challenger Lucrecia Manzur (14-5, 7 Kos), turned out to be a tougher task than expected for the champion but a very entertaining one for the fans in attendance. Knowing beforehand that Serrano was in pursuit of breaking Christy Martin’s 32 professional knockouts record, Manzur came in this bout with a very good “game plan” that prevented her from being No. 33 on Serrano’s hit list.
The young Pitbull Manzur brought that “HEAT” and them hands and proceeded to put gloves nonstop all over Serrano that prevented her from having her usual way inside that squared circle. Manzur kept that pressure coming from all angles and forced the champion, to work at a pace she was not ready for.
Serrano stood her ground and fought fire with fire but was clearly getting outworked in the first half of the bout, hands down. That being said, this was a very competitive bout where Serrano’s experience started to take over in the later rounds as Manzur started to look tired from keeping a very active pace but nevertheless, Manzur still kept fighting toe-to-toe with the Champ who was picking up some momentum as the rounds progressed.
Manzur showed up big on the night and proved to be a very worthy competitor to the Champ. After 12 full rounds of nonstop action the Judges at hand scored it 116-112, 116-112 and 114-114 handing Amanda Serrano the majority decision. (Suspect!)
Despite the controversial outcome, Amanda collected her 50th professional victory and retained her WBA/WBO/Ring Magazine Featherweight Titles while looking forward to her next final bout of her professional career.
