On The Watch “It’s All About Jaime Munguia vs Bruno Surace”

Super Middleweight Showdown

Last night’s Top Rank/ESPN + Main Event between Jaime Munguia (44-2, 35 Kos) and Bruno Surace, (26-0-2, 5 Kos) at his hometown of Tijuana, Mexico, turned out to be a cherry pick gone wrong for the homegrown fighter.

This bout was meant to be a stay busy fight with no real threat ahead but what transpired was quite different when the little-known Frenchman, Surace asserted himself quite well and surprised the opposition.

Although Munguia did score an early knock down in round two with a powerful left hook, he was unable to get the Frenchman out of there. Surace stood his ground and fought toe-to-toe and took some abuse but fended off the attack quite well.

Surace, who is not known for being a power puncher did have quickness and good punch selection making this bout quite interesting at times. Munguia was physically the bigger and stronger combatant but still had to work inside that squared circle with his opponent showing much resistance.

Judging by how the bout was unfolding, it was clear that Munguia did not respect Surace’s power and that cost him dearly in the sixth round when he got caught with his hands wide open to a counter one two combination straight to the chin that dropped Munguia to the floor struggling to get up to the referee’s count who inevitably stopped the bout before he could come to his senses.

No one anticipated this type of an outcome but Surace and his team who had never fought outside of France before seized the opportunity bestowed to them and accepted the challenge with open arms and silenced all naysayers who had counted them out. Surace, who is not a true Super Middleweight proved to be a formidable opponent on the night and for that I tip my “B” hat to him for handing us possibly the Upset Of The Year.

On The Watch “It’s All About Canelo Alvarez vs Jaime Munguia”

Undisputed Super Middleweight Cinco de Mayo Showdown

Last night’s PBC/Golden Boy/Prime Video/DAZN Main Event between Undisputed IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine Super Middleweight Champion “Kingpin” Canelo Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 Kos) and countryman, former World Champion Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34 Kos), undeniably lived up to the “HYPE” surrounding this great event. Real Talk!

The young Lion Munguia brought the “HEAT” to the Kingpin’s door and gave a very good accountability for himself inside that squared circle but found out first-hand what in entails to go toe-to-toe with a seasoned, savvy veteran the likes of Canelo.

There are levels to this Boxing sh*t and on the night Munguia learned that lesson on the biggest stage of his career to date.

Not to be outdone, Munguia fought a great one and stood his ground even after being dropped for a standing 8 count in the fourth round. He bounced back and proceeded with the original “game plan” by applying pressure with an aggressive offence.

These two warriors brought their Mexican fans to their feet at the Arena the way they banged on each other, exchanging leather after leather at close range giving us that action.

That being said, school was in session last night and the instructor was Canelo who methodically broke his opponent down round by round and made it look good. Canelo was active with his hands and precise with his punches which disrupted Munguia’s usual high-octane offense. As big and strong as Munguia was on the night it was the skill set that separated both warriors inside that squared circle.

After 12 rounds of entertaining action, the Judges at hand scored it 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112 unanimously for Canelo Alvarez.

The “Kingpin” reigns supreme once again on Cinco de Mayo and still Undisputed IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine Super Middleweight Champion of the World.

Well done, Canelo, another great victory to be added on this very special night!

On The Watch “It’s All About Canelo Alvarez vs Jaime Munguia”

Undisputed Super Middleweight Cinco de Mayo Showdown

It has now officially been announced: the “Kingpin” Undisputed IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine Super Middleweight Champion Canelo Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 Kos) recently had a change of heart and will now be defending his Crown on Cinco de Mayo weekend at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night, May 4, 2024, against his countryman, unbeaten former World Champion Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 Kos).

Munguia is a young, hungry, worthy combatant who will bring the absolute “HEAT” to Canelo inside that squared circle. This kid is strong and relentless when push comes to shove and he will not give up without a fight. This bout has the potential to be a real action-pact type of an event for the simple reason that Munguia has the punch resistance and the right amount of punch output to hang toe-to-toe with the “Kingpin” inside that squared circle. Real Talk!

That being said, the experience at this level belongs to Canelo. This battle-tested version of Canelo is a serious problem to any opponent attempting to dethrone him on the biggest stage. It’s a different ball game when you step inside that squared circle opposite the “Kingpin”.

Both combatants have respectable power and will be exchanging leather back and forth between them, but truth be told, I see it coming down to their individual skill sets and the right “game plan” on fight night.

It will be interesting to see how the young lion asserts himself on the biggest night of his career against boxing’s biggest star ‘Kingpin” Canelo Alvarez. Who will prevail as Mexico’s No. 1 Champion on Cinco de Mayo?

Tune in Saturday night May 4, 2024, on PBC Pay-Per-View/Prime Video/DAZN/PPV.com at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and witness the outcome of this historical night.

Who you got?

On The Watch “It’s All About Jaime Munguia vs John Ryder”

Super Middleweight Showdown

Last night’s Golden Boy/DAZN Main Event between Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 Kos) and John Ryder (32-7, 18 Kos) was an impressive showing by Munguia who brought the house to its feet the way he handled Ryder inside that squared circle at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

It was quite evident that pairing up with new head trainer Freddie Roach was the right move to make at this point in Munguia’s career. Jaime showed much improvement with his patience and punch accuracy under the tutelage of Freddie Roach.

Munguia looked comfortable and in control inside that squared circle. With his pressure style and sharp timing on point he was able to catch Ryder with a right hand and dropped him for a quick standing 8 count in the second round. Ryder showed his usual resilience and fought back going toe to toe but succumbed once again by being dropped in the fourth round by a short well placed left hand to the dome for another standing 8 count.

John continued to put his best foot forward as the rounds progressed by showing his heart and willingness to throwdown but with very minimal success, this version of Munguia was mounting to be too much to handle inside that squared circle.

Munguia was surprisingly more defensively minded then usual and very sharp, strong and accurate causing havoc to his opponent all night. The inevitable was near and by the ninth round the heavy onslaught that Jaime came with was simply too demolishing to withstand causing Ryder to breakdown and meet the canvas twice in the round looking beaten on all angles prompting his corner to halt the bout. Ryder got up every time but the right call was made to save this “Gorilla” from further punishment.

This was a very impressive showing by Munguia, the type of showing that could possibly get the attention of the “Kingpin” Undisputed IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine Super Middleweight Champion Canelo Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 Kos).

Well done, Jaime, I hope your call out to the Champ gets answered.

On The Watch “It’s All About Jaime Munguia vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko”

Super Middleweight Showdown

Last night’s Golden Boy/DAZN Main Event between Jaime Munguia (42-0, 33 Kos) and Sergiy Derevyanchenko (14-5, 10 Kos) was an exciting showdown that undeniably brought the fans in attendance to their feet at the Toyota Arena, Ontario, California. Real talk!

Both combatants moved up from the Middleweight Division to the Super Middleweight Division to have this incredible clash and boy did they bring that heat inside that squared circle.

It was clear from the way this bout started out that Munguia did not expect this type of resistance from his older opponent but what he soon found out was that this “Technician” was not someone to be taken lightly inside that squared circle.

Derevyanchenko brought his “A” game on the night and showed the young buck how serious things can get when you move up in competition. Both combatants threw some serious leather at each other round by round but it was Sergiy’s consistent aggressive pressure that troubled Munguia as the rounds progressed.

Munguia had a good jab whenever he let it go but his lack of defense on the night was quite evident and disturbing considering the heavy shots he kept on absorbing. I mean the dude is tough but when you’re met with a resilient warrior like Derevyanchenko, you have to quickly reassess the “game plan” at hand.

Both combatants were hurt multiple times and showed fatigue throughout the bout but as the championship rounds approached, Munguia seemed to have the edge in the power department. By the 12th and final round Jaime may have sealed the deal with a devastating body shot that sent Derevyanchenko down for a quick 8 count which then had Sergiy backpedaling in survivor mode for the remainder of the round.

After 12 hard fought completed rounds, the Judges at hand scored it 115-112, 114-113 and 114-113 unanimously for Jaime Munguia. It was a tough battle that I think personally, could have gone either way.

That being said, Munguia definitely fought the toughest opponent of his career to date. With this hard-earned win Munguia picked up the vacant WBC Silver Super Middleweight Title positioning himself one step closer to a possible clash with the “Kingpin” of the Super Middleweight Division Undisputed Champion Canelo Alvarez.

On The Watch “It’s All About Jaime Munguia vs Gabriel Rosado”

WBO Inter-Continental Middleweight Championship

Last night’s Golden Boy/DAZN Main Event between Jaime Munguia (38-0, 30 Kos) and Gabriel Rosado (26-14-1, 15 Kos) at the Honda Center, Anaheim, CA, did not lack excitement. Real Talk!

Them two warriors fought their hearts out inside that squared circle from start to finish. Nonstop action coming from both sides with heavy leather being thrown with bad intentions.

Fight by fight you can see the improvements Munguia has been making and last night all was on display. His defence was always questionable but noticeably improved in my eyes. His durability and the crazy punch output with the combinations and his heavy hands, is what separates him inside that squared circle. This Kid is something special and definitely has a crowd-pleasing style to keep you on the edge of your seat.

That being said, Gabe ain’t no walk in the park for anybody inside that squared circle and last night Gabe put that impressive pressure style of fighting on Munguia round after round, determined to make his presence felt inside that squared circle. Gabe did a hell of a job and showed his toughness with his own durability as well. Gabe dished it just as much as he was taking.

The only drawback for Gabe was that he needed to be a tad busier cause the Kid Munguia had them punch combinations coming in bunches whenever Gabe hit him with a good one, which clearly swayed the Judges.

After 12 full rounds of nonstop action, the Judges scored it 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111 all unanimously for Jaime Munguia. I don’t have a problem with the winner but this type of score card is disrespectful. Win or lose Gabe made this bout a lot closer than what these Judges saw, HANDS DOWN!

Munguia got tested last night in probably his biggest fight to date. With this win he now becomes the new WBO Inter-Continental Middleweight Champion, giving him a clear path to WBO Middleweight Champion Demetrius Andrade or WBC Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo. Given these two options, Munguia is still hoping for a chance at IBF Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin.

Regardless of the path Jaime decides to take on, anyone of these three Champions will guaranty an exciting bout.

Until then, congratulations on your win Jaime.

On The Watch “It’s All About Jaime Munguia vs Kamil Szeremeta”

WBO Inter-Continental Middleweight Title Defense

Last night’s Golden Boy/DAZN Main Event between WBO Inter-Continental Middleweight Champion Jaime Munguia (37-0, 29 Kos) and Kamil Szeremeta (21-2, 5 Kos) at the Haskins Center, El Paso, Texas, was another showcase type of event for the Champion.

No disrespect to Szeremeta but he did not belong inside that squared circle with this young Lion Munguia. I personally think this bout was a step down from his previous outing. This bout was simply an open night to some light sparing session for Munguia.

Munguia may not be quite ready for the belt holders in the Division but the kid needs to be fed with better competition. You can clearly see he’s eager to test his skills with the best of them.

Szeremeta had absolutely nothing to offer him. Munguia was having his way with him with little to no resistance coming back Munguia’s body and head attacks were simply too strong for Szeremeta to withstand. It was like watching Munguia hit the heavy bag at will. It didn’t take long for Szeremeta’s corner to pull the plug at the end of the 6th round. The onslaught was just too painful to watch. Real Talk!

The kid needs to be unleashed and properly tested. Hopefully his next bout will do just that.

Just my thoughts.

On The Watch “It’s All About Jaime Munguia vs Spike O’Sullivan”

Middleweight Challenge

Last night’s DAZN’s Main Event at the Alamodome in San Antonio Texas between Jaime Munguia (35-0, 28 Kos) and Spike O’Sullivan (30-4, 21 Kos) did not disappoint.

Munguia, in his first Middleweight debut, asserted himself quite well against the tough and seasoned veteran O’Sullivan. It wasn’t a walk-in park for Munguia but a stiff challenge type introduction to letting him know what is to come in the 160-Pound Division.

Spike did his best at keeping up with Munguia and making it quite interesting in the early rounds with his counter punches but as the rounds wore on Munguia started to feel more and more comfortable in there. Munguia showed improvement with his speed and movement but the main and obvious factor causing Spike all his problems was Munguia’s power. Munguia’s steady jab and overhand right was landing at will last night and Spike had no real answer for it.

Although Spike showed tough grit in there and the willingness to compete, the non-stop onslaught he was receiving by the 11th round had him out on his feet which then prompted O’Sullivan’s corner to throw in the towel.

With his first win at the Middleweight Division, Jaime Munguia has officially arrived. His youth, size, speed and strength appear to fit the 160-Pound Division just right. The Kid is nice with it and feeling himself rightfully so. But calling for all that smoke with all the Champions at the Middleweight Division (not called Demetrius Andrade) might be a step too early.

That said, congratulations on your victory Jaime, I can’t wait to see who will step up to the plate and accept that challenge.

On The Watch “It’s All About Jaime Munguia vs Liam Smith”

WBO Junior Middleweight Challenge

Last night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vagas Nevada, Jaime Munguia (30-0, 25 Kos) had himself a successful first defense of his WBO Junior Middleweight Belt against a worthy opponent in Liam Smith (26-2-1,14 Kos).

The young Champion had himself a live body in Liam who definitely didn’t come into town to bow down. Liam tried his best and used his experience to try to amplify Munguia’s lack of defense but found it quite challenging to neutralize Munguia’s none stop aggressive offense in doing so.

The Kid Munguia was just too strong, bigger and much younger to be contained by Liam but real talk, Liam put up a hell of a fight even after being dropped in the six rounds. Liam showed a lot of heart to go along with his strong will to never backing down or giving up at no point in the fight.

Munguia punished Liam from round 2 to 12 to a unanimous decision but it wasn’t an easy task. This was a good test of character for Munguia who hadn’t gone 12 rounds before.

Munguia, 21 years old, is an impressive fighter. He’s still fairly raw but unquestionably made a statement of his own last night. Theirs a new “Kid” in the 154-pound Division ready to stir up the pot. However, I personally wouldn’t go out and call out the other Champions in the Division just yet. Give yourself some time with a few more bouts under your belt. Your future is bright, pace yourself, and keep perfecting your skills cause you’re undeniably a star in the making.

Congratulations on your win Champ.
