On The Watch “It’s All About The NBA-Who’s On Top?”

The NBA Who’s on Top?

We are at the Quarter mark of this year’s NBA Season and sitting at the top above all for the moment is our own Canadian team The Toronto Raptors with a 18-4 record. I didn’t anticipate this great start from the Raptors considering the dramatic changes that were made over the summer but “DAMN”, the addition of Kawhi Leonard has them Boyz swagged up in a different way. Real Talk. It’s still early in the season but as of right now this team is looking on point on offence and defence. The Milwaukee Bucks are surprisingly tearing it up with some much-improve play cause them Boys have been “Ballin outrageous” with a respectable 15-6 record to date. The hunger and the talent are there now it’s just about keeping a steady healthy momentum throughout the season and these Boyz can certainly be a threat to any team. The Philadelphia 76ers have had an up and down start but managed a 15-8 record to date. With the latest addition of Jimmy Butler to the squad the 76ers will now have a solid set of 3 all-stars in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Expectation will be high for them three to gel quickly and turn things around. Peeps keep talking about the Eastern Conference being weak but Real Talk, the Division is still competitive. The Pacers’ 13-8 record, The Pistons’ 11-7 record and The Hornets’ 11-10 record are all keeping it real interesting. Now what I’m most surprised by is the play of The Boston Celtics with their record of 11-10. Unbelievable! Now I know it’s still early in the Season, but them Boyz need to get it together asap and start ballin. There’s way too much talent on that team to be sitting at the borderline like that. Real Talk!

The heated Western Conference is an early roller coaster ride with some teams playing musical chairs in the standings so far. Still premature into the Season, The Los Angeles Clippers are surprisingly holding on to the No. 1 Spot with a 14-6 record. These Boyz are ballin with a chip on their shoulders trying to prove the naysayers not to take them lightly with their revamped roster. The Defending Champs Golden State Warriors have taken an early set back with Steph Curry and Dramond Green who’ve been out of the line up for a few games. They’ve been able to sustain themselves for now with a 15-7 record, but truth be told they need Curry and Green back asap if they want another crack at the gold again. I know Its still early into the season, but the West is too strong of a Division to be hobbling around. The Denver Nuggets have dramatically improved on both side of the court and are breathing down all opponents’ necks with their record of 14-7 to date. They have a good thing going on over there and only time will tell if they’re for real with it. The Oklahoma City Thunder’s 13-7 record, Portland Trail Blazers’ 13-8 record, Memphis Grizzlies’ 12-8 record and The Los Angeles Lakers’ 11-9 record, are all bubbling teams that can intertwine and change position amongst the standings at any given time. That’s how tight this Division is. Surprisingly, The Houston Rockets are on the outside looking in with their disappointing start of 9-11 record. They were hit early with games missed by James Harden and Chris Paul as of late. I’m not counting these Boyz out just yet, but they absolutely need to get it together and play catch up Basketball sooner rather then later. The Western Conference is an endless race that can leave you behind in no time, good or bad.

On The Watch “It’s All About Dmitry Bivol vs Jean Pascal”

WBA Light Heavyweight Challenge

WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitry Bivol (15-0, 11 Kos) had himself another dominating performance last night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City when he easily dismantled former Champion Jean Pascal (33-6-1, 20 Kos).

As dominant as Bivol was last night it was certainly not his best performance to date. Bivol has shown us time and time again that he is fundamentally sound with a very high Boxing IQ inside that squared circle; however, I still think he’s holding back at times when he’s got his opponent hurt.

I was confused by Pascal’s game plan or lack thereof. Dude had heart but absolutely no jab or strategic offence whatsoever? It was embarrassing to see a former Champion go out the way he did. Real Talk! Sporadic bursts of punches doesn’t do anything if you’re not consistent with your pressure throughout the rounds!!

Bivol clearly outclassed Pascal inside that squared circle last night but seemed to have run out of juice in the championship rounds. As polished as Bivol is as a fighter, there are still some unanswered questions that can hopefully be addressed as his competition improves.

Your thoughts on this one?

On The Watch “It’s All About Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner”

WBA Welterweight Challenge

It’s official, the “living legend” Manny Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 Kos) will be defending his WBA (regular) Welterweight Title against Adrien Broner (33-3-1 24 Kos) Saturday January 19, 2019 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Arena.

This bout right here has the potential of being a blockbuster if both combatants show up and perform to the best of their abilities come fight night. Real Talk!

Aside from the WBA belt being on the line there is a lot at stake here for both combatants. A win here for Pacquiao would silence his naysayers and prove to the boxing community that the “Pacman” still got it and still has more to add to his legacy.

As for AB a win against a living active legend like Paquiao would bring him right back up into the mix with the rest of the top Welterweights. This is the type of bout that AB needs to bring the best out of him. The big stage, the glitter, the lights and a convincing win could just be what he needs to get him back focus on his career 100%.

That being said, we can’t front on Pacquiao. His last demolition of Lucas Matthysse four months ago showed us that “Pacman” still got the goods and the skills to hang with the best of them young or old. It will be up to Broner to show him a “Problem” that he can’t solve inside that squared circle come Saturday night January 19, 2019, live on Showtime PPV in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Arena.

On The Watch “It’s All About Errol Spence Jr. vs Mikey Garcia”

IBF Welterweight Challenge

Ask and you shall receive. It’s now officially been announced; the highly questionable match up between IBF Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr. (24-0, 21 Kos) and WBC Lightweight Champion Mikey Garcia (39-0, 30 Kos) is scheduled to take place on March 16, 2019 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Mikey is a proven and established warrior who’s held World Titles at Featherweight, Super Featherweight, Lightweight and Super Lightweight. With this challenge ahead, he is now looking to claim a Title in his fifth weight class Division by attempting to dethrone IBF Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr.

Mikey has been calling for this fight for a minute now and the call has finally been answered. To me this is a tough task considering Mikey will be going up two weight Divisions to take on Errol. Real Talk! I personally rate Mikey as pound-for-pound one of the best within his primary weight class in this era hands down but taking on the “Boogie Man” of the Welterweight Division is a challenge beyond belief.

The weight difference between the two combatants is a major factor. Mikey won’t just be dealing with a heavier Dude but also one that carries crack with every punch he throws. I know that styles make fights and that Mikey is technically sound and strong within his own right but the size and power that Errol walks with might just be too much for Mikey inside that squared circle.

That being said, if Mikey were to pull off the unthinkable and give Spence his first loss, he would be joining a prestigious circle of the likes of Sugar Ray Lenard, Tommy Hearns, Oscar de la Hoya, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. who’ve all won World Titles in five different weight classes. Not bad company if you ask me.

On paper and amongst the boxing community, Spence looks like a clear winner. It will be up to Garcia to prove all the naysayers and doubters wrong come fight night. Will the little man beat the bigger guy?

Tune in Saturday night March 16, 2019 on FOX pay-per-view and witness possibly the most intriguing bout of the New Year.
